strengthening grace
It is God’s plan for all of His children to experience His strength in their daily lives. Because of what Jesus did for us in His redemptive work, strength is now available to those who are in Christ. Strength is a grace from God as 2 Corinthians 12:9 reveals to us, “And he said unto me, My GRACE is sufficient for thee: for my STRENGTH is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the POWER of Christ may rest upon me.” Notice grace is called strength and power. There is not only saving grace but also strengthening grace (there is also serving grace and sanctifying grace). It is important to understand strength as grace because everything you can say about grace is applied to strength. It means:

1. JESUS DID THE WORK TO PROVIDE IT (or to make it a provision available to us).
2. WE DID NOT AND CANNOT WORK FOR IT (we cannot work for it, earn it, and certainly didn’t deserve it; it is not owed to us, a reward, or merit but a gift; we don’t have to feel worthy of it).
3. THE WORK TO PROVIDE IT IS DONE (grace is the finished and complete work of God in Christ; we do not have to beg God to give it to us or try hard to get Him to want to give it to us; it was already His will for us to have).

We have all the strength we need already available to us as a provision of grace. Strength as a grace also means that it is a provision that must be received by faith. Just like saving grace must be received through faith (Ephesians 2:8, 9) strengthening grace is received and released through faith. Faith can receive strength like it can receive salvation. Hebrews 11:11 says, “Through FAITH also Sara herself received STRENGTH to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.” We are told that not only did Abraham believe to have Isaac but Sarah also herself all on the basis of her judging God to be faithful to His promise. Her FAITH received STRENGTH to conceive. She was in her nineties, past the time of child bearing and her body’s natural function of producing an egg and hormones necessary. Her child making factory was shut down for almost forty years (average age of menopause is 51). She is ninety and Abraham’s body is dead or impotent and yet she by FAITH received STRENGTH to conceive. Remember this the next time someone tries to tell you when you are believing God that it is all over and it is too late. Don’t believe the lie believe God and defy the natural.
