Deuteronomy 8:18 But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.
The power to get wealth is not always about someone just coming up to us and giving us something or God just dumping something on you. Deuteronomy 8:18 tells us He gives us the “power” to get wealth and one rendering of that word power is the word “the means.” He gives us the means to get wealth and often that is the channel of our job. He works through channels to provide for us both seed to sow and resources for living, and our job is a channel. God is our source but our current job is the channel. The channel may change but our source remains the same.
God certainly does bless us through our giving and seed sowing but I know some people’s view of prosperity is that working to get $1000 couldn’t be God’s blessing. Remember Luke 6:38 says that God also blesses us through the hands of men. I’ve heard of some Christians who have believed God to prosper them and all they keep getting is job offers, raises, and overtime pay. Could tremendous blessing be coming to you through the channel of work?
The Bible often connects prosperity to diligence and the work of our hands:
Deuteronomy 28:8 The Lord shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
Deuteronomy 28:12 The Lord shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.
Proverb 12:24 The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.
Proverb 12:14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him.
Proverb 10:4 He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.
Not only is there a connection between, diligence, work, and prosperity there is also a corresponding connection between slothfulness and poverty:
Proverb 18:9 He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.
Proverb 20:4 The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.
Proverb 21:25 The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour. 26 He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not.
Proverb 24:30 I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; 31 And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down. 32 Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction. 33 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: 34 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man
