power for harvest

Next to receiving Jesus as one’s Lord and Savior the second most important experience all believers are commanded to receive is the baptism with the Holy Ghost Acts 1:8. One of the last things Jesus told His disciples before He left the Earth was to tarry in Jerusalem until they were endued with power from on high (the Holy Ghost) Luke 24:49. He didn’t want them to leave home without it and do the work of the ministry without the power of God. They had to wait for this promise from the Father (Acts 2:38, 39) because He had not ascended yet into Heaven and the Holy Ghost hadn’t been sent yet.

Acts 1:8 gives more insight about the promise of the Father which says, “But ye shall receive POWER, after that the Holy Ghost is come UPON YOU: and ye shall be WITNESSES unto me BOTH in JERUSALEM, and in all JUDAEA, and in SAMARIA, and unto the UTTERMOST PART OF THE EARTH. Notice the words: power, upon you, witnesses, and outward bound (what is implied by the series of places Jerusalem, Judaea…). Do you realize Jesus made it very clear what He intended this experience to be about by what He modeled or by His own example?

Jesus witnessed in:
A. Jerusalem – John 2:23-25; 3:1-21.
B. Judea – John 3:22, 23.
C. Samaria – John 4:3.

He showed them before He told them what the intention was of the experience of being baptized with the Holy Ghost. It was not about tongues, or receiving tongues, or just about the accompanying supernatural sign of speaking in in other tongues (languages). The Holy Ghost is for our going outward bound with our witness not just for our church gatherings. In fact the initial outpouring of the Holy Ghost happened because the disciples were in Jerusalem, not just because Jesus told them to tarry there, but because of the feast of Pentecost. Three major feasts where every male had to appear in Jerusalem were Passover, Pentecost, and Tabernacles. Pentecost was fifty days after Passover. If they understood Jesus as the final Passover Lamb and fulfillment of that feast, then Pentecost was next, and the coming of the Holy Ghost was a part of the fulfillment of that feast. Do you know that the feast of Pentecost is also called the feast of Harvest? Ex 23:16 says, “And the feast of harvest, the firstfruits of thy labours, which thou hast sown in the field: and the feast of ingathering, which is in the end of the year, when thou hast gathered in thy labours out of the field.”

The Holy Ghost is the power to help us get the harvest in. He is a harvesting Holy Ghost.
