The Lord Jesus’ miracle healing ministry included several healings done on the Sabbath. In fact, in Luke 4, Jesus opened His preaching ministry on the Sabbath. Have you ever noticed how the Gospel writers by the Holy Spirit did not mention that He did miracles on on many different days although we know He did? The Lord Jesus healing ministry includes several healings on the Sabbath.

Why on the Sabbath?
1. They are the core of His assault against the religious Pharisee-ism; the religious thinking of His day; religious system of His day.
In Exodus 20:8-11, the Law stated, “Six days labor do all thy work, but the seventh do no work.” Notice the work forbidden by the Sabbath is your work. The Sabbath was a day when MEN were commanded not to work although work is not defined beyond that. Despite the Word of God warnings about keeping the Sabbath, rarely did it give examples of what constituted work. So the religious Pharisees did and categorized Sabbath restrictions especially work in a code of oral traditions with thousands of specific rules for every situation or contingency. They also prided themselves in keeping the Sabbath which they thought they did better than everyone else. They used the Sabbath to bring men into bondage. Jesus knew the Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath.
2. Jesus was demonstrating and making a statement that healing was finished and the total work of God.
Remember Jesus never broke the Law and the Sabbath was a day when MEN were commanded not to work; so if a healing or miracle took place it had to be by THE WORK OF GOD. The first mention of a Sabbath day of rest is when God rested on the seventh day because His Creation work was finished. Our healing is the finished work of God. Healing on the Cross was completely the work of God not man and it belongs to us (Isaiah 53:3-5; Matt. 8:17).
