Both the Old Testament and New Testament declare that Jesus Christ is coming again to this earth, and He will be establishing His world order and His government. Prophetically in God’s time table, we live in a time period identified by Jesus, apostles and prophets known as the Last Days. The prophet Joel prophesied of this time period when he declared, “And it shall come to pass AFTERWARD, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit Joel 2:28, 29.” With the outpouring of the Holy Ghost on the Day of Pentecost upon the Church gathered in the upper room in Acts 2:1-4, the Apostle Peter locates the exact time of Joel’s prophecy saying what just happened to them is what Joel was talking about, “But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. 16 But THIS IS THAT which was spoken by the prophet Joel; 17 And it shall come to pass in THE LAST DAYS, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: 18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy… Acts 2:14-18.”
Although the term “Last Days” and similar expressions have application to God’s plan for the nation of Israel, Pentecost was the event that triggered the beginning of the Last Days as it relates to the Church. It is also the Age of Grace and the Age of the Church. It is the Last Days of the Church on Earth before Jesus comes and the Last Days will not last forever. I believe we are living in the last seconds of the Last Days and it is later than what many think it is. We need be about the Lord’s business until He comes bringing in the harvest of precious souls and discipling believers in His work and ways. I’m not focused on when Jesus comes but that He is coming and we are to OCCUPY till He comes (Luke 19:13). Occupy means to “busy oneself,” “to be involved and engaged in business (His Business).”
It is important to know the environment and spiritual climate of the Last Days. This is the only climate change we need to be aware of the Bible calls perilous times. Troubling times, difficult days, times where people in our world are looking for solutions and finding none. It is within these days that we are assigned to do God’s will and work, live Godly lives, and raise our families in. I am not sure most believers are ready for the Last Days but they are here. We must be sober and vigilant as we are steadfast, unmovable, and always abounding in the work of the Lord.
Spiritually, we are built for these times. We have superior armor, superior weapons, a Lord and leader Who knows no defeat, and greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. The exhortation in Romans 13:11-14 is a great one to live by and to take heed to its instruction. “And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. 13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. 14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.”
