As we begin another year it is important to set the course of our life like we would the rudder of a ship. It is not the wind and waves that sets the course of the ship but where the captain of the ship sets the rudder. The book of James compares our tongue (or words from our tongue) as our rudder. James 3:4 says, “Behold also the ships which though they be so great and are driven of fierce winds yet are they TURNED ABOUT with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth (wills; decides). Just like a helm (or rudder) seems so small in relation to a big ship – yet a small rudder can TURN ABOUT a big ship. The same is true with Spirit filled believers. The real issue is not power (we have power Acts 1:8, Luke 10:19) but how we set our rudder. The direction of the rudder is what we are saying with our words and our faith.
Proverbs 18:20,21 adds, “A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue and they that love it (indulge in; delight in; inclined in) shall eat the fruit thereof.” Our God can turn things around for us so that we can experience our best year ever this year but we must realize how powerful our words are in influencing our life. They either work for us or against us, add to our satisfaction or add to our dissatisfaction. They either bring life or death.
Whatever God has said about us in His Word or whatever His Word says about us we can boldly say about ourselves. Hebrews 13:5, 6 says, “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for FOR HE HATH SAID, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 6 SO THAT WE MAY BOLDLY SAY, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.” HE HAS SAID in Proverb 4:18, “But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.” SO I BOLDLY SAY, “My future is getting brighter and brighter just like the rising of the noon day Sun. My path in 2016 is looking bright and I confidently expect it to be so. Set your rudder for a new year in 2016!
