Jesus said that there would be a love problem in the Last Days prior to His Second Coming to the Earth (Matthew 24:12). As Christians our love for God should be a witness to people that we are disciples and followers of Jesus (John 13:34,35). Love is a word that we often use in many contexts. We’ve all heard things like, “I love pizza,” “I love shopping,” “I love sports,” or “I love movies.” Some people dislike objective measures but you cannot really manage or improve what you cannot measure. I used to play baseball and we always knew how we were doing and what we needed to work on to improve because everything was measured (Batting average, home runs, hits, walks, strikeouts, stolen bases, errors etc.,). Real love, the God kind of love is identifiable by certain qualities and we can measure what we really love if we examine them. Love has devotion, sacrifice, and pursuit and these qualities of love can be identified with our time, investment, effort, protection, interest, and pleasure:
1. We MAKE TIME FOR what we love.
2. We INVEST IN what we love.
3. We MAKE EFFORT FOR what we love
4. We PROTECT what we love.
5. We SHOW INTEREST IN what we love.
6. We TAKE PLEASURE IN what we love.
Check yourself by these six measures and see if you love God, His Church, His Word, His Work, His Mission to the World. How are you doing and what do you need to improve on?
