Matthew 22:36 40 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

These two Commandments fulfill all the righteous holy things God said in the law and all of what God said through the prophets. The second commandment is to love our neighbor as ourselves. Jesus emphasized this second commandment as an identifying mark of a disciple. “A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another John 13:34, 35.”

Our love for one another is A WITNESS that can draw men to God (John 13:34, 35). Our love for one another will give men knowledge that we are followers of Jesus and very often open them up to hear the Gospel. Very often the world cannot hear what we are “saying” because of what they are “seeing.”

Our love for others is A VISIBLE SIGN that we know God. 1 John 4:8-11 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. v. 9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. v. 10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. v. 11Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. How can we say we love God whom we cannot see if we cannot love those who we can see 1 John 4:20,21. Our love for one another will also be seen in the frequency, quality, and commitment to fellowship with members of the Body. When we love God we love God’s people.

Our love for one another is AN INDICATOR that we are walking in the light. God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 1 John 2:8-11 says, “Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth. He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now. He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.”
