we can carry on

“I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten… And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed” (Joel 2:25-26).

As we have come to the end of another year to begin a New Year it is good to know that we can start over. This past year may have been filled with disappointments, discouragements, and loss but we can still have a new year with different outcomes. The reason for my optimism is that we serve a God of restoration and He can restore our wasted years.

Sometimes we have to just pick ourselves up and carry on. Sometimes strength shows not only in our ability to persist on a certain path but also in the ability to start over. We can start over because we serve a God of restoration and a God whose mercies are new every morning. Lamentations 3:22 says, “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” We have access, by the grace of God, to a Divine reset button for our life and we can start over.

Many things may change in 2016 but one thing for sure that will never change which is God’s faithfulness to His Word. Numbers 23:19 says, “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” He can be depended on and relied upon. We can start over by putting His Word first place in our lives in 2016 and put our faith in Him for a New Year.
