John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
Ps 46:1God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
The Holy Ghost is here to comfort, strengthen, support, and bring relief to our pain. We do not always need to look for relief on the outside of us because the Holy Ghost will soothe our pain from the inside. We do not always need to draw strength from the support of someone on the outside because we have the strength from the Holy Ghost inside. God’s comfort and strength, through the Holy Ghost, will help us to stand even when you are all alone. He will comfort and strengthen us in the midst of emotional and physical pain. He is always there, for He dwells or has taken up residence within us. We are never rejected, abandoned, forsaken, or betrayed by Him.
A great example of the Holy Ghost’s present help and strength can be seen in the life of the Apostle Paul. Second Timothy 4:16-18 says, “At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me…, Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.” Paul was in a terrible situation. He talks about all those that were in Asia (present day Asia Minor) who forsook him or turned against him (2 Timothy 1:15). He was not just experiencing rejection from one or two people, this was a whole region.
I’m sure there was some emotional pain going on and a drain on his strength. How in the world was he going to fulfill his assignment when all that was around him was rejection and opposition? Somebody else was standing with him. He did not need the help of man, he needed the help of God. They all forsook him, but the Lord stood with him and strengthened him. He finished his assignment. Thank God for the Holy Ghost and His ministry of comfort, help, and strength.
