THANKSGIVING FOUNDATIONS

foundations

We have so much to be thankful for as Christians and as Americans. Thanksgiving like contentment is a learned attitude Philippians 4:11. The person who hasn’t learned contentment will not be thankful for he lives with the delusion that he deserves more or something better. Learn these foundations to thanksgiving and maintain a thankful heart. Base your thanksgiving on:
WHAT HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE BY GOD’S GRACE
Col. 1:12-14 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: 13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
UNCHANGEABLE THINGS
Psalm 119:89 For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven.
2 Cor 2:14 Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.
GIVE CREDIT TO THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF OTHERS
1 Cor 4:7 For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?
Phil 1:3 I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,
BEING FULL OF THE SPIRIT
Eph 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; 19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; 20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
MAKING THANKSGIVING A MAJOR PART OF OUR PRAYER LIFE
1 Tim 2:1-2 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
REFLECTING UPON WHAT HAS NOT HAPPENED AND WHAT HE HAS KEPT US FROM
1 Peter 1:5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
FOCUS ON COMMON BLESSINGS OVERLOOKED (like food, shelter, and clothing).
Matt 6:31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 For after all these things do the Gentiles seek: for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
