1 Corinthians 4:7 For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?
We are God’s workmanship or the product of God (Ephesians 2:10). We are who we are by the grace of God and all we have we received from Him (1 Corinthians 15:10) so we owe Him thanks every day. As the text says “what do you have that you didn’t receive?” Aside from being who we are by the grace of God who among us is not also a product of the contributions and influences of others in our life? You’ve heard the saying, “No man is an island unto himself,” and it is only a self centered person who does not recognize this. We should be thankful and give credit to the contributions of others who have influenced who we are.
There really is no such thing as a self made man unless you can find one that supplied the sperm, egg, and controlled the process of conception, did the carrying for nine months, as well as the birthing, the nursing, the feeding, the wiping, the cleaning, the transporting, and all the providing. You ought to take a moment and thank God for your great grandparents, grandparents, parents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, teachers, friends, coaches, pastors, ministers, elders, fellow believers, employers, our nation’s leaders, soldiers, and forefathers just to name a few.
Who among us is not the product of the influences & contributions of others. Give thanks for the people God’s put in your life.
1 Timothy 2:1-2 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and GIVING OF THANKS BE MADE FOR ALL MEN; 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
