Ephesians 4:8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. 9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.) 11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
We start out as Christians as new creations in Christ where old things are passed away and all things are become new (within our spirit man and nature). God’s plan is for us to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and go on towards perfection or maturity. Our God did not leave us to ourselves to grow and to stay on a pathway to growth. He gave us free gifts to help us grow called Ministry Gifts (Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors. And Teachers). They are graced by God to nourish us, mature us, edify us, and equip us. They are one of the various channels, vehicles, and delivery systems God uses to impart His grace to us. Grace helps us do what we couldn’t do on our own and get to where we couldn’t get ton on our own. This is one of the reasons why we need planted in and committed to the Local Church where they flow in and out of.
As we grow and develop our relationship with the Lord we can sometimes stumble, fall, sin, and make mistakes. At those times that we mess up we need to fess up and get back up and go at it again . There is nothing gained by being dishonest about our mistakes or living in denial. Proverb 28:13 says, “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.” Another translation says, “He that refuses to admit his mistakes will not prosper but if he confesses and forsakes them he gets another chance. God gives us gifts to encourage us at these times and to help us get back in the race. They also are voices in our lives to assure our heart of God’s commitment to our maturity. He will not give up on us, leave us, or forsake us. “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work, in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ,” Philippians 1:6. He will not give up on us so stay in the race.
