2 Kings 2:19 And the men of the city said unto Elisha, Behold, I pray thee, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord seeth: but the water is naught, and the ground barren. 20 And he said, Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein. And they brought it to him. 21 And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith the Lord, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren land. 22 So the waters were healed unto this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spake.
God has a plan for every nation on Earth to fulfill His purposes. Acts 17:26-27 says,”And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; 27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us.” Nations and their leaders can depart from God and it will cause a nation to become barren, unproductive, and cursed (Isaiah 54:1). If leaders of a nation aren’t righteous they become like a diseased river with bad water in them & will make our land more barren. A diseased leader causes barrenness.
We can see this in the story in 2 Kings 2:19-22 where the water in the city was not good and it caused the ground to be barren, unfruitful, and unproductive. When the prophet Elijah assessed the situation he realized he had to cure the diseased river in order to change the barrenness in the land. His solution to the barren ground was to put salt into where the spring of waters were. The waters were healed and it stopped the death and barrenness in the land.
The ideas, policies, philosophies, laws, orders and influences flowing from a bad leader can be like bad water causing great destruction in a nation and to other nations. We have a diseased river in America in Washington D.C.in our leaders who are doing damage and destruction. The answer is salt into where the water springs from. Righteous leaders have salt in them that influences everything they touch and can heal the land. Proverb 14:34 says, “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.” We need righteous people in authority at all levels of our government to turn the tide of moral decay in our nation. Proverb 29:2 says, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.”
