Proverbs 13:12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick, but when the desire cometh it is a tree of life.
Hebrews 10:23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith (hope/expectation) without wavering; for he is faithful that promised.
Delay in the fulfillment of a desire we are believing God for can sometimes wear us down and even make us feel grief in our heart. Proverbs 13:12 says, “Hope deferred maketh the heart sick, but when the desire cometh it is a tree of life.” As time goes by we can lose our motivation and desire for fighting the fight of faith. We may even ask ourselves, why should we fight to stay motivated when it seems easier to stay discouraged, down and out, or just quit. The truth is there is no reason to quit. We all know plenty of people who quit but they are still miserable and quitting did not produce the desired result. It is our focus that needs adjustment.
David said in Psalm 42:11, “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted within me? Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise Him, who is the health of my countenance and my God.” We must remember that delay is not denial from God and He is still working on bringing His promise to pass. Hebrews 10:23 says, “Let us hold fast the profession of our faith (hope/expectation) without wavering; for he is faithful that promised.” (The word translated “faith” in this verse is really the Greek word for “hope” which is “elpis”). Keep saying what you expect without bending, bowing, or wavering in your stand. His promise gives us a hope that we we will not be ashamed of for it comes from the God who cannot lie.
