Gen 2:10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. 11 The name of the first is PISON: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; 12 And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone. 13 And the name of the second river is GIHON: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia. 14 And the name of the third river is HIDDEKEL: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is EUPHRATES.

Jesus spoke about spiritual rivers flowing from our innermost being after believers receive the Holy Spirit (Jn. 7:37-39). It is interesting to note that man started with a river in the Garden of Eden. The river in the Garden of Eden can be a picture of what would be a spiritual reality in the New Creation where God put rivers in us. Of course when Jesus referred to rivers He spoke of the Holy Ghost. There has to be different flows of living water Jesus referred to because He said “rivers” not river. Those can all be connected to the One River, the Holy Ghost, but flow to bring life in different ways such as: edification (Jude 20); illumination (1 Corinthians 2:9, 10); manifestations (1 Corinthians 12:7-11); intercession (prayer) (Romans 8:26, 27; 1 Corinthians 14:14 -16).

There are more lessons to learn to these rivers flowing if you compare them to the River in the Garden of Eden in Genesis 2:10-14.
1. Not Natural or the normal way a river forms. Typically many tributaries or streams flow into one big river but this river was one river parting into four. The four NT rivers of living water are SUPERNATURAL.

2. Number 4 being used itself refers to Creation and things pertaining to Earth. They are for use while we are here on Earth.

3. Numbered Order is specified (First, Second, Third, Fourth) All these rivers flowing will add different dimensions to our spiritual life)

4. Names of the rivers unveil an effect they have;
a. Pison – Dispersing.
b. Gihon – Bursting.
c. Hiddekel – Rapid.
d. Euphrates – Fruitfulness/Destructive.
These rivers flowing will cause a Dispersing, Bursting, Rapid, Fruitfulness in our lives and destruction to the spiritual enemies in our lives11203696_10206551044525553_7218791359136929524_n
